They that go down to the sea in ships

They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

Psalms 107:23 – 26

A video installation created for sound.art at The Tin Tabernacle on February 27th 2014-03-12

The Tin Tabernacle in Kilburn, London is a remarkable building that seems trapped in time.

It was the headquarters of the North London Sea Cadets and is full of naval paraphernalia from the middle part of the last century and walking through the doors transports you to another era.

“sound art events” performs with artists, musicians and digital composers, it is an hybrid between art and live.

On this occasion experimental sets and installations approached relational aesthetics and counter-culture.

The event was an exhibition of media archaeology, morse telegraphs, and morse telegraphs receivers, loudspeakers, and more sound devices from 50 – 70´s.

“They that go down to the sea in ships” is a site specific installation using manipulated footage of World War Two naval battles projected though the gun site of a ship’s gun located within the Tin Tabernacle.
